HOW TO DETECT THE TOW BAR FAILURE

You can detect some faults of the tow bar visually. If you see dents, other mechanical damage, corrosion spots, this is an alarm sign. Besides this, examine the tow bar fasteners for intactness and tightening degree. To detect internal damage, for example, the lock mechanism freeplay, you have to contact a service station.

You may identify that the tow bar requires to be checked, by an abnormal sound coming from the tow bar while driving.

CAUSES OF THE TOW BAR FAILURE

Frequent car use in conditions of high humidity can promote the part corrosion. The habit of driving with a trailer on poor-quality surfaced roads often leads to formation of dust deposit on the tow ball. Excessive load on the part, in particular, regular overloading of it beyond the maximum allowable towing weight, results in the part breakage or other mechanical damage.
