Front Silencer
EXHAUST SYSTEM AUTO PARTS: FRONT SILENCER
HOW TO DETECT THE FRONT MUFFLER FAILURE
First raise the car with a jack and examine the exhaust system. Visible cracks, corrosion, dents and burnouts on the front muffler surface show that the part needs replacement. Then start the engine. If smoke comes from the front silencer, then its tightness is impaired.
You can check if the muffler is clogged in the following way. First you need to detach the wire from the spark plug, and then start the engine and assess its performance stability at idle and when increasing the revolutions. Then stop the engine, unscrew the disconnected spark plug and restart the power unit. If it starts to work better, and smoke comes from the spark plug hole, then the exhaust system is clogged. During the inspection, to protect yourself from electric shock, connect a spare spark plug to the disconnected high-voltage wire.
To detect more precisely which of the exhaust system components is clogged, you have to disconnect the flanges behind the catalyst and drive the vehicle for a certain distance. If the engine power has increased and it has started gaining rpms better, most likely, the failure cause lies exactly in the resonator.
