HOW TO DETECT THE DASHBOARD INSTRUMENTS AND INDICATORS FAULTS
The dashboard instruments and indicators inspection should be performed during each car technical inspection. First, check whether the indicator needles of the speedometer, tachometer and thermometer, as well as the indicator lights respond to switching the ignition on and off. If they remain still or do not light up when you turn the key to the corresponding position, check whether the push button circuit breaker is not turned on. If the indicator needles of the coolant temperature and oil level gauges deflect to the left end position, and that of the fuel level gauge - to the right end position, check the contact between the electrical wires and connectors of the sensors and indicators: it is likely to be lost.
Use the appropriate equipment to check the correct performance of the devices. For instance, measure the coolant temperature with an industrial mercury thermometer, and the oil pressure - with a pressure gage attached to the lubrication system. Compare the obtained values with the indicator readings on the instrument panel. The fuel level indicator serviceability can be checked by filling the tank using a graduated container.
